According to the Ministry of Justice the federal government and Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), did not sign a non-prosecution plea.
The report claimed that both parties agreed to the non-prosecution plea deal.
However, Modupe Ogundoro, director of press and public relations at the Ministry of Justice said the report was false in a statement on Saturday 30th September 2023.Â
Furthermore, the report alleges that Mr Godwin Emefiele and the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice signed the non-prosecution deal and the agreement is waiting for the signature of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice also agreed and stated that these reports are false. The legal team that represents Mr Godwin Emefiele had expressed their intention to the law court at the last hearing to initiate a plea deal.
However, Ogundoro declined that no arrangement had been breached with Emefiele or his representatives. She told the media and members of the public to disregard the false report.
The spokesperson also added that the office of the Attorney General of the federation and minister of justice will keep taking action in the interest of the Nigerian public.
