WAEC Names A New Leader

Dr Amos Dangut assumes leadership of the West African Examinations Council’s Nigeria National Office.

In a significant development, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled Dr. Amos Dangut as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office.

This eagerly anticipated announcement was made via an official statement issued by WAEC on Monday 2nd October 2023, which marked the dawn of a new era.

Dr Dangut’s ascent to this prestigious role comes on the heels of his invaluable service as the Deputy Registrar in the Head of National Office’s (HNO) office, where he showcased his expertise and dedication.

His appointment signals a changing of the guard, as he steps into the shoes of the outgoing Head of the National Office, Patrick Areghan, whose successful tenure draws to a close later this month.

Moyosola Adesina, currently the acting head of Public Affairs at WAEC, provided further insights into Dr. Dangut’s illustrious career. His journey with the examination council began in 1998 when he joined as an Assistant Registrar (AR) II. Over the years, he ascended the ranks and achieved the position of Deputy Registrar in April 2018.

Notably, he garnered commendations from the Nigeria Examinations Committee for his transparent and impeccable conduct of examinations during the years spanning 2000 to 2006.

Patrick Areghan had previously hinted at his forthcoming retirement and departure from WAEC in August when he announced the results of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates.

Dr. Amos Dangut’s impressive journey in education and professional growth has deep roots. Born on October 2, 1967, in the Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State, his educational path is a testament to his commitment to learning.

He attended Government Secondary School, Riyom, from 1981 to 1983 and Government Science School, Kuru, from 1983 to 1986, culminating in the successful acquisition of his WASC/SC in 1986, both institutions being located in Plateau State.

Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Dangut ventured into higher education at the University of Agriculture in Makurdi, Benue State. There, he earned a Bachelor of Agriculture degree in Animal Production in 1991.

As Dr. Amos Dangut takes the reins at WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, his impressive background, dedication, and commitment to education promise a bright future for the organization and the students it serves.
