“The Black Book ” is a Nollywood crime thriller movie that was released on September 22, 2023. It is produced and directed by Editi Effiong.
In just a week after its release, the film took the coveted number-one spot on Netflix in Nigeria and number three globally. The film was produced with a budget of $1 million. Since its release, it has been among the top 10 movies in 69 countries, including Poland, Nigeria, the Dominican Republic, Kenya, Jamaica, the US and South Korea.
The cast brought their A-game to the screens with their stellar performance. The actors are Richard Mofe-Damijo – playing the lead role, Shaffy Bello, Ade Laoye, Sam Dede, Ireti Doyle, Femi Branch, Ikechukwu Onunaku, Kelechi Udegbe amongst others.
The film is about a grieving deacon who has to go back to his past life following a tragic incident that befalls him. His son is framed for kidnapping and killed in the process. Consequently, the deacon has to fight corrupt police officers to avenge his son’s death and clear his name.
The movie is now regarded as the biggest African film and the first Nollywood film to break into the top global views on the streaming platform.

The movie script was refined for two years, pre-production preparations took a year and it was filmed for 13 months.
