Wales hammered Gibraltar by four goals to nil in an international warm-up friendly match on Monday, 11th of October, ahead of their crucial EURO qualifier game against Croatia.
All four goals were scored in the first half of the game. Ben Davies, Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead were the goalscorers for Wales as they dispatched low-ranking side Gibraltar in their first-ever meeting at senior-level football.
The Wales Head coach, Rob Page, decided to rest several key players due to the upcoming crucial game against Croatia. A game in which Wales need to get at least a draw to keep their hope of qualifying for next year’s European Championship set to be held in Germany.
Gibraltar on the other hand came with a FIFA ranking of 198 out of the 207 football Nations, with an EURO qualifier game against the Republic of Ireland coming up. They’ve also failed to score a single goal since their lone goal friendly win against Andorra last year September and have suffered six defeats in a row.
Ben Davies scored the opener for Wales after planting a header from a corner kick in the 22nd minute of the game. The second goal came four minutes later when Moore connected with a cross from Savage to extend their lead.
Ten minutes before halftime, Broadhead collected a pass from Daniel James, turned and smashed it into the net to add further misery to Gibraltar. Moore got his second just before the halftime whistle via a header from James’ cross to put the scoreline at four-nil.
Wales made efforts to increase their tally with an angled shot from James which hit the frame of the post and a Josh Sheehan cross which Tom Bradshaw failed to connect with. The game eventually finished Four-nil for the home side Wales.
Following his impressive performance in the game, the Wales Coach, Rob Page has confirmed that Charlie Savage will be part of the Wales senior team for their Sunday qualifier game against top European side, Croatia.
