APC Postpones Bayelsa Governorship Campaign

The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has announced the postponement of its official flag-off governorship election campaign for the November 11 election, earlier scheduled for Saturday, October 14, at the state capital, Yenagoa.

The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Moeka, on Friday in Abuja.

He said that a new date would be announced to the public soon.

The statement said, “In the meantime, the campaign activities continue in Bayelsa Central Senatorial District with Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA on Tuesday, and Southern Ijaw Local Government Area will take its turn on Wednesday.”

According to a statement by Perri Tukuwei, the Director of Media and Publicity, Bayelsa APC Gubernatorial Campaign Council, the postponement was due to urgency from the office of President Bola Tinubu, who would love to be present at the event.

The party implored its supporters to remain steadfast and focus on the main goal of taking over the administration of the state from the PDP-led government.

The Abuja High Court recently disqualified Timipre Sylva, the APC governorship candidate, from contesting in the upcoming governorship election.

The judgment, delivered by Justice Donatus Okonkwo, held that Sylva had twice been sworn in and ruled the state for five years as governor.

He claimed that it would be a breach of the 1999 Constitution if Sylva was allowed to run again. Because if he won and was sworn in, he would spend more than eight years as governor.

The APC, however, has said that Sylva remains its governorship candidate for the November 11 poll.“We wish to state categorically that Sylva is and remains our candidate for the November 11 election.

“Our party and its candidate have duly instructed the legal team to appeal the decision of the Federal High Court diligently and expeditiously,” the APC spokesman said while reacting to the judgment.
