APC Is Non-Existent Anywhere In The South-East – Labour Party

Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, has disclosed that the defection of Ifeanyi Ubah, the Senator representing Anambra South, to the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Thursday poses no threat to the Labour Party.

Ifoh made these comments as he remained confident that Senator Anthan Achonu, the Labour Party candidate, would unseat the sitting governor, Governor Hope Uzodima, in the November 11 poll.

Ubah moved from the Young Progressive Party (YPP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The news of Ubah’s defection spread quickly after it was read on Thursday in the Senate Chamber.

Ubah, who was re-elected for a second term under the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the February elections, according to the letter, explained that he defected to a different party because of disputes within his former party.

His defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) increased the total number of APC senators to 60.

While receiving him at the APC’s national secretariat in Abuja, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, described Senator Ubah as a ‘big fish’ with massive political clout in Anambra State.

Ganduje also expressed a strong belief that Ubah’s defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) will set off a wind of revolution that will liberate the region.

But Ifoh opposed the APC National Chairman’s declaration, maintaining that Ubah jumped ship to increase his chances of pursuing his Anambra governorship ambition.

This was as he argued that the All Progressive Congress had little or no serious presence in the region.

He said, “Don’t get it wrong. Ifeanyi Ubah is from Anambra State and I can tell you that he defected because of his governorship ambition which he can never get with the ticket of YPP. So, he needed a party that had Federal Government support to be able to ride the crest.

“I am saying the APC is non-existent anywhere in the South-East. Let me repeat it again. The LP is the South-East party, not the APC. That also showed during the 2023 general elections.

“For the first time the LP contested fully, they won virtually every position in the South-East, except for the areas they were rigged out.”
