The National Campaign Council of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the November 11 Bayelsa gubernatorial election says the party will come out victorious at the polls, despite the disqualification of its governorship candidate, Chief Timpere Sylva.
The chairman of the council, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, the governor of Gombe State, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa.
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Felix Moeka, had earlier, in a statement on October 13, announced the postponement of the party’s campaign, which was scheduled to take place in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Saturday, October 14.
The postponement comes after an Abuja High Court judgment by Justice Donatus Okonkwo suspended the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Timpere Sylva, from contesting in the polls because he had previously been sworn in twice and ruled for five years.
He claimed that if allowed, Sylva would govern for more than eight years as provided by the 1999 constitution, which would be a violation of the constitution.
Yahaya, who led members of the National Working Committee to the state, said that the visit was to strengthen the collaboration between the national leadership and the state’s chapter to ensure the party is triumphant at the polls.
He said that Chief Timipere Sylva has the necessary experience and skills to lead the state, in addition to his wide acceptance by the people of the state.
The governor said that the postponement of the official launch of the party’s campaign was to provide for sufficient preparation to receive President Bola Tinubu for the campaign.
He also noted that a new date for the launch would soon be announced.
“We therefore use this medium to call on all our teeming supporters and well-wishers to come out enmasse for the campaign rallies,” he said.
