David Babachir Lawal, a former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), has claimed that Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) won the presidential election and not President Tinubu, as announced by INEC.
In a quick reaction, the All Progressives Congress (APC) accused lawal of spreading gibberish rather than learning with tranquility from his political misadventure.
The party challenged him to provide a detailed breakdown of his so-called “aggregated facts sourced from independent sources,” which he asserted proved Obi won the election.
According to the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement, his failure to provide these facts to help Obi prove his case before the Presidential Elections Petitions Court can be compared to “massive disservice, if not betrayal, of his political principal.”
Lawal, a close ally of Tinubu, disclosed that available data, as compiled from different independent sources, indicated that Obi won the majority of votes while Atiku came in second in the election.
He said, “Available data, as aggregated from several independent sources, indicates that Obi got the majority votes while Atiku came second. Bola came a distant third in the number of votes scored.”
He said he believes Tinubu still has the opportunity and time to save himself the public humiliation of his person, both locally and internationally, by resigning from the presidential seat and focusing on his health.
“But now, six months down the line, the chicken has come home to roost as Nigerians have come to the realisation that we have not got what we deserved politically.”
Speaking of the current economic situation of the nation, Lawal noted that the people have lost trust in the leadership of the nation and those involved.
“Bola, the president, and his group are now in government and are in full control of Nigeria’s vast resources and opportunities. They are enjoying their offices while Nigerians languish in insecurity, poverty, and hopelessness.”
He stated that Tinubu made several claims about his competence during this period but has yet to reflect on them.
He also noted that President Tinubu seems to be rewarding those who helped him secure the presidency with appointments. Those whom he said have concern for the nation.
According to the APC, Babachir Lawal ought to have known that running a prejudiced commentary on a matter before the apex court is the peak of irresponsibility. But he is still nursing vindictiveness and bitterness over his failed dream of being the running mate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The party stated that Nigerians in all sectors of the nation voted for President Bola Tinubu, who was the best candidate in the race.
Additionally, APC said that Lawal is in no position to offer an opinion over President Tinubu’s appointments. The party described Lawal’s criticism of President Tinubu’s appointees as uncharitable, describing him as a failed politician. Recall how he was dismissed from the office of SGF by President Muhammadu Buhari on the grounds of poor performance.
The party stated that it is convinced that the appointees will deliver and not disappoint the trust of the president.
“And while they are at it, we would admonish Babachir Lawal to concentrate on managing his farm and stop constituting himself into a needless distraction unbefitting of his age and status.”
