Labour Party Faction Issues Obi 48 Hours To Clarify Certificate Controversies

A faction of the Labour Party (LP) has threatened to suspend Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, if he fails to shed light on the allegation of using his late brother’s credentials.

The Lamidi Apapa faction of the Labour Party warned that Obi would be suspended if he failed within 48 hours to clarify the inconsistencies in his academic records.

A statement by Abayomi Arabambi, the spokesman of the faction, said Obi should shed light on the allegation that he was impersonating his late elder brother.

According to Arabambi, the Labour Party wished to demand an answer to several questions surrounding the issue. The questions include the name of the late elder brother of Peter Obi, the year his elder brother died, the name on the secondary school and university certificates, the nature of his brother’s business, and the name on Obi’s birth certificate.

Other questions concerning the allegation are the discrepancies with the name on his birth certificate and school certificate and why it is different from the one at UNN. Which institution mobilized Obi for his youth service? What is the reason for the divergence of the name on his Nsukka certificate from the one on his NYSC certificate?

According to him, “One would have expected Peter Obi to offer a satisfactory response to Nigerians as to the reasons for explicit discrepancies in his academic records to reveal his true identity and save our party from further avoidable national embarrassment.

“But rather than toe this line of challenge, his attack dog descended to the arena of political somersault, leaving facts to promote audio fiction, thus confirming our position that Peter Obi is using the name and certificate of his dead elder brother.”

Arabambi said it must be clarified first to the public that Obi provided no evidence against the allegations of forgery, impersonation, and discrepancies contained in his school certificate, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) certificate, and NYSC certificate.

The Labour Party faction further demanded to know why Peter Obi decided to submit his WAEC certificate, in which he failed mathematics and English, which are compulsory requirements for admission into any Nigerian university.

“We challenge Mr. Peter Obi to provide answers to all the questions raised above to clear the air of uncertainty about his person.

“Failure to do this within the next 48 hours will attract his suspension from the Labour Party,” he said.

Arabambi also condemned Tanko Yinusa, the spokesman for the Peter Obi/Datti Ahmed presidential campaign council, for claiming that the allegation that Peter Obi was impersonating his late elder brother was a farce.
