Tinubu Approves Establishment of 7 New Federal Tertiary Institutions

In a significant development for Nigeria’s education landscape, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the green light for the establishment of seven new federal tertiary institutions across the nation. This decisive move is a testament to the government’s commitment to expanding access to higher education.

Augustina Okechi, the Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations, made this announcement on behalf of the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, in an official statement on Friday, October 20.President Tinubu’s approval includes the establishment of two Federal Universities of Agriculture, two Federal Universities of Medical and Health Sciences, and five Colleges of Education. Furthermore, the President has also approved the conversion of four Colleges of Education into Federal Universities of Education.

These educational institutions hold immense promise and reflect President Tinubu’s vision for an “Education for the Renewed Hope Agenda,” aimed at enhancing access to tertiary education in Nigeria.

“The establishment and conversion of these institutions is a further demonstration of President Tinubu’s Education for the Renewed Hope Agenda and will help in improving access to tertiary education in the country. ” Okechi claimed.

Okechi disclosed that the establishment of the approved institutions would commence immediately for the following institutions:

Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, Delta State and Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, Adamawa State.

Colleges of Education converted to Universities:

Federal Universities of Education Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Ondo State

Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo State.

The Colleges of Education: Federal College of Education, Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti State Federal College of Education, Ididep, Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State and Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, Kebbi State.

As Okechi has claimed, this development is poised to make education more accessible and aligns with the government’s overarching goal to enhance educational opportunities across the nation.
