‘Get Ready For Probe, Prosecution’ – Enugu PDP Chieftain, Eya Tells LG Chairmen

A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial aspirant for Enugu North District, Chief Chinedu Eya, has delivered a stern warning to the outgoing council chairmen in the state to brace up for probe and possible legal action.

Eya said, going by perceived maladministration by some of the council helmsmen, they would not escape investigations to be initiated by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah.

In a post on his social media pages on Wednesday, Eya stated that Governor Mbah “will most likely probe the financial irregularities of the outgoing LG chairmen in Enugu State.”

He added that only those prudent, whose achievements were verifiable, would escape the level of probing that would be instituted against them after office.

Eya stressed the governor’s determination to eradicate extravagance and wastefulness, particularly in light of his ambitious plans to drive industrial development and significantly boost Enugu’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

His words: “I am actually not holding the brief for our dear governor, but from what we have seen since he took over the reins of power at Lion Building, the outgoing LG chairmen should get ready for probe and prosecution.

“You know, as someone who is coming from the corporate world, who is so determined to transform the state through industrialization, he would naturally hate wastage and profligacy.

“Meanwhile, whenever you see a leader who has set lofty goals like Governor Mbah, especially when he stated he would raise the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from $4b to $30b, my brother, you must be very careful under such leadership.

“Such a leader would naturally hate frivolous spendings and financial profligacy.

“This is where I see him probing the outgoing LG chairmen,” he explained.

With the tenure of the local government chairmen set to elapse, the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has fixed council polls for February 24, 2024.
