FG Set to Clear N35,000 Wage Award Arrears and Resume Timely Payments!

The Federal government is ready to settle the arrears of the N35,000 wage award and has already resumed payment.

They are fully committed to addressing the National Minimum Wage agreement with Organised labour.

Also, Minister of Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, held separate meetings with the Trade Union Congress and Congress of University Academics, highlighting the government’s dedication to implementing agreements.

Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of open communication, strong labour relations, and fostering a harmonious work environment for all employees.

Onyejeocha acknowledged the challenges faced by trade unions and reassured them that the government stands by its promises.

She confirmed that the N35,000 wage award is being paid on schedule, and any outstanding payments will be settled soon. The commitment to establishing a new national minimum wage committee is also a priority.

The Minister recognized the trust placed in the government by the Trade Union Congress and expressed ongoing readiness to listen and collaborate for the betterment of the people.

In light of earlier discussions, where Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, proposed wage adjustments to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal, the government is receptive to dialogue and working towards fulfilling agreements.

Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress, appreciated the government’s progress so far, particularly fulfilling 80% of the agreement with the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria.

The remaining 20% was urged to be resolved. The union remains committed to engaging constructively without jeopardizing progress.

Overall, these recent developments showcase the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare and collaborative efforts with trade unions.
