Former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is on the brink of joining Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam following an agreement to terminate his remaining six-month contract with Al Ettifaq.
It is believed that the Dutch side has proposed a deal with a duration of 18 months with an option to extend by a year. Ajax is also ready to organize a quick medical and registration to ensure that the veteran midfielder is eligible to make his debut against RKC Waalwijk this weekend in the Eredivisie.
Ajax are currently 23 points behind League leaders PSV and they believe that Henderson could be a major boost to the team as they push for a European spot during the remainder of the season.
Reports have revealed that Al Ettifaq has reached an agreement with Henderson to terminate his remaining six-month contract to pave the way for a move away from Saudi Arabia. Henderson made 19 appearances for Al Ettifaq under the management of Steven Gerrard, who was his former teammate at Liverpool.
According to Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan, Henderson is expected to be in Amsterdam on Thursday morning for his medicals. He also revealed that no transfer fee is included in the deal with Henderson ready to buy out his remaining half-year contract from the Saudi Arabia Club as a form of compensation.
Marcel stated that things are going rapidly as regards the transfer. He opined that Ajax fans are excited about the news that a prominent player like Henderson is set to join the club with the deal 99 percent done and awaiting signatures of all parties involved.
In terms of the wages, it remains undisclosed. However, it has been rumored that Henderson could be the Club’s highest-paid player ever.
The Saudi Arabia Football Federation and Al Ettifaq are in full support of the deal and are happy that a deal that is suitable for all parties could be reached.
