Financial Considerations Not Behind Ajax Move – Henderson

Former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has revealed in an interview session that his recent move from Al Ettifaq to Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam wasn’t based on financial considerations.

Henderson had his contract with Al Ettifaq terminated just after six months by mutual consent to foster a free transfer move to Ajax Amsterdam earlier this week. His move away from the Saudi Arabian Club was to increase his chances of representing England in the oncoming EURO 2024.

The decision to snub a return to the Premier League came as a surprise to his fans. Reports have suggested that the midfielder could have been handed a large tax bill on his Saudi earnings if he had returned to the Premier League.

However, Henderson has debunked those rumors and insisted that his move to Ajax was purely a sporting decision and not influenced by financial considerations.

“My move to Ajax has nothing to do with anything except football reasons. This is why you shouldn’t believe everything you read from the press. I felt it was an opportunity to move to a prestigious club like Ajax to showcase myself and my dedication to football”, he said.

The ex-Liverpool man stated that the welcome he received at Ajax was incredible and hopes to repay the faith shown to him by the club and its supporters.

“I will give everything over the next two and half years to take this club back to where it belongs and bring back the glory days and success that the fans are accustomed to”, he added.

On his desire to represent the English National team at the European Championship this summer, Henderson revealed that he has been in constant contact with Head Coach Gareth Southgate and remains hopeful of making the squad for the competition.

In another reaction, Henderson rendered an apology to those offended by his earlier move to Saudi Arabia, claiming that he never intended to offend them in any way and has taken responsibility for his actions.
