Abia Panel Secures TETFund Bus from College Ex-rector

The Abia State Judiciary Panel on Recovery of Government Properties and Funds successfully reclaimed a Toyota Hummer bus initially allocated to the Abia State College of Education, Technical (ASCETA), Arochukwu, via a Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) initiative In a recent development. The vehicle, which had been in the possession of the former provost of the institution, Philip Nto, was recovered following an order issued by Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe.

Justice Duruoha-Igwe determined that the former rector lacked approval from either the Abia State government or TETFund to utilize the bus for personal purposes. Consequently, the panel directed the immediate transfer of the vehicle to the new provost of ASCETA, Professor Vincent Eze.

However, the ex-provost, Nto, expressed discontent over the seizure of the official vehicle acclaiming that his entitlement to it is based on existing government regulations. Nto questioned why the panel did not consider this aspect and highlighted that he was owed a substantial sum of 120 million naira. He raised concerns about conflicting orders issued within a span of two days by the panel which casts suspicion on their actions.

While expressing his willingness to comply with the panel’s directive, Nto voiced discomfort regarding the haste with which the order was executed. He urged Governor Alex Otti to ensure that the recovery panel remained impartial and not influenced by personal vendettas. Nto also emphasized his belief that the situation might be perceived as persecution for his service under the former PDP administration of Okezie Ikpeazu, which he claimed had provided necessary approvals for his actions.

Meanwhile, the panel has considered a petition submitted by former staff members of the college who were dismissed during the tenure of the institution’s former management. All these actions of the Abia State Judiciary Panel on Recovery of Government Properties and Funds are precautions taken to further safeguard the properties of the Abia State Government.
