On Thursday, the Ondo State House of Assembly screened and confirmed Olayide Adelami, a former Deputy Clerk at the National Assembly, as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.
The development came 24 hours after Governor Aiyedatiwa nominated Adelami for the position of deputy governor and sent his name to the Assembly to be screened and approved.
The office had been vacant after Aiyedatiwa was sworn in to replace the former governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
The Assembly confirmed the nominee after the consideration of a report by the House selection committee during the plenary session of the Assembly presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Olamide Oladiji.
The House had earlier conducted a screening exercise at the Assembly complex for the nominee before the plenary.
During the plenary, the Clerk of the House, Jaiyeola Benjamin, read the letter sent to the House by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the consideration of the nominees.
After the submission of the report, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Abayomi Akinruntan, recommended the confirmation of Adelami’s appointment, affirming that the nominee had been properly screened.
The Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, moved the motion for the report to be considered and the nominee to be confirmed, and the motion was seconded by Felix Afe, representing Akoko North West 2 Constituency.
The Speaker, Oladiji, who ruled for the confirmation, congratulated the Deputy Governor designate, imploring him to put in his best, and pledged the house’s support to the executive for the citizens to enjoy more democracy dividends.
Adelami, in his response, appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for nominating him and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him.
