Captain of the Cameroon National Team, Vincent Aboubakar has recovered from his injury and is available for selection for Saturday’s AFCON Round of 16 clash against The Super Eagles of Nigeria.
This was revealed by the Cameroon Media outfit, Eqinoxe TV after confirming that Aboubakar took part in Cameroon’s intense training session in preparation for Nigeria on Wednesday, which lasted for about 90 minutes.
The 32-year-old did not feature for Cameroon in any of the group-stage games as a result of an injury sustained in training a few days before the commencement of the competition.
Aboubakar will be facing The Super Eagles for the third time if selected on Saturday. His previous appearances against Nigeria were in 2015 and 2017.
His first game against Nigeria was in a friendly game back in 2015 which Cameroon lost by three goals to nil.
Two years later, he featured against Nigeria in the second leg of the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Yaounde. The game ended in a one-all draw with Aboubakar getting the goal for Cameroon via a spot kick.
The striker was the top scorer of the last AFCON edition hosted by Cameroon with eight goals. He has also scored four goals and created one in 12 appearances for his club side Besiktas.
It was also reported that Clinton Nije has also recovered from injury and will be available for Saturday’s match against Nigeria.
