Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has completed his medicals and is on the brink of joining London Club, West Ham on a six-month loan.
The English midfielder made just 31 appearances for Manchester City since he switched from Leeds United to the blue side of Manchester for a £45m transfer fee back in July 2022. Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City Gaffer also admitted that he doesn’t see Phillips making his squad.
Phillips returned on Tuesday from Manchester City’s training camp in Abu Dhabi with the rest of the squad to complete his medicals ahead of his loan move to The Hammers.
With the deal in place, the 28-year-old has now left the Cityzens temporarily. However, there is an option to buy if West ham are interested in making the move permanent.
According to reports, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United also made contact with Manchester City if a deal could be done, while top European Clubs like Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus were rumored to be interested in the midfielder.
Phillips is yet to make a single Premier League start for Manchester City this season having started just twice last season.
Pep Guardiola stated before the January transfer window that he doesn’t see any place in his squad for the 28-year-old midfielder who has made just four appearances this season.
According to Gary Neville, Phillips’ move to West Ham is a good move for both parties. “I think it’s a good move, I can see why David Noyes wants Kavin Phillips after Declan Rice made that move to Arsenal in the summer, Phillips will improve the team.”
The former Man Utd midfielder also pointed out that Phillips needs the guaranteed playing time to make it to the England team ahead of the European Championship.
