Armed Forces Play a Crucial Role in Fulfilling the Mandate of FIRS – Chairman

In a groundbreaking revelation, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has emphasized the crucial role that the country’s Armed Forces play in the agency’s mission to collect revenue.

This momentous statement was made when Adedeji warmly welcomed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and his team of esteemed Generals to the Revenue House in Abuja.

Explaining the symbiotic relationship between the armed forces and revenue collection, Adedeji stated, “Without the armed forces ensuring a safe and secure environment for businesses to thrive, the FIRS would falter in collecting any revenue.

They are the guardians who protect our valuable vineyards, especially in the oil and gas industry, allowing us to reap the fruits of prosperity.”

He further emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “We must not overlook the link between security and prosperity.

Without security, progress would wither away. We aspire to tax only the fruits of growth, and that is why ensuring the welfare of our armed forces and security operatives is paramount.”

Affirming the firm commitment of the Armed Forces to support the FIRS, General Musa reinforced the impact of the agency’s success on the nation, saying, “The more the FIRS flourishes, the more Nigeria prospers.

The agency is of utmost importance to the government, the Armed Forces, and our entire country. We stand ready to lend our full support to the FIRS and ensure its unhindered operations for the benefit of all.”

This exciting news comes on the heels of the FIRS surpassing its 2023 revenue target by a staggering N816bn, an outstanding achievement showcasing a remarkable 107% performance.

Setting an ambitious goal of collecting N19.4 trillion in taxes this year, the FIRS seeks to continue its impressive growth trajectory, with a year-on-year increase of 56.9% from last year’s revenue and 67.91% from the previous year’s target.

The FIRS has truly positioned itself as a game-changer, raising further awareness among the public about the vital role of taxation in national development.

As the agency forges ahead, it remains steadfast in its commitment to contribute to the growth and prosperity of Nigeria, buoyed by the unwavering support of the Armed Forces.
